Expansion of Ayushman Bharat (PM-JAY)

  • The Union Cabinet has approved extending health coverage under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY)to all senior citizens aged 70 and above, regardless of income.
  • Benefits:
  • No Income Criteria.
  • Covered 4.5 crore families, providing ₹5 lakh/annum/family health insurance.
  • Beneficiary will receive a distinct card.
  • Those already covered under AB PM-JAY will get an additional top-up of ₹5 lakh for themselves, which is separate from family coverage.
  • Senior citizens not covered by AB PM-JAY will receive ₹5 lakh coverage on a family basis.
  • Portability between public health insurance schemes like CGHS, ECHS, Ayushman CAPF and AB PM-JAY. Similarly with private insurance or under the Employees’ State Insurance scheme.
  • AB PM-JAY, the world’s largest publicly funded health assurance scheme, provides ₹5 lakh coverage per family annually for secondary and tertiary care, benefiting 55 crore individuals.
